Joan Dreyer

American Dance and International Dance

Joan was introduced to skating on a date as a teenager and first enjoyed a successful figure and dance career of her own, having earned her Gold Medal proficiency test award in team dance, before becoming one of the Northwest’s most successful dance coaches.  Joan has had over twenty of her skaters earn national dance medals, both in American and international styles.  Joan has taught at rinks in Salem, OR, Gresham, OR, Kelso, WA, Hillsboro, OR, Vancouver, WA, and at The Oaks.  In 1990 Joan was awarded the Northwest Coach of the Year, and currently she sits on the board of the Northwest Roller Skating Foundation. Joan has had many champions, but none have made her prouder than her daughter, Cindy, who has had multiple national titles and medals.  Several of Joan’s grandchildren have also been competitive skaters, and her granddaughter Brittany was a JO National Figure Champion as a teenager.  Outside of skating Joan is a registered nurse and does a lot of consulting work.  Joan is always interested in the beginning skater and often spends time introducing new rink visitors to the sport.
